Housing Market Data

The Washington Center for Real Estate Research produces a range of housing market data reports:

  • Housing Market Reports provide quarterly median prices, numbers of transactions, and affordability indexes for single-family homes for all counties in the state; median prices and affordability indexes are now available via WCRER Dashboards.
  • Apartment Market Reports provide quarterly average rents and vacancy rates for most counties in the state; average rents and vacancy rates are now available via WCRER Dashboards.
  • Annual Median Price Reports are used primarily to determine homestead exemptions in bankruptcy proceedings (RCW 6.13.30).
  • Census Data Profiles provide a range of demographic, economic, housing, and social data for counties and cities throughout the state; these data are drawn from the US Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey.
  • Subsidized Rental Housing Profiles represent an effort to track the number of subsidized rental housing units in the state; the aim is to produce a series of annual reports in collaboration with the Puget Sound Regional Council.
  • City House Price Data include quarterly median prices and affordability indexes for single-family homes for cities with populations greater than 10,000 as well as selected smaller cities – now available via WCRER Dashboards.
  • City Rental Data consist of quarterly average rents, vacancy rates, and affordability indexes for cities with populations greater than 10,000 as well as selected smaller cities; city rental data – now available via WCRER Dashboards.
  • Permits and Completions Reports include annual summaries of residential permit applications and completions, as well as year-to-date permit application data, for counties and cities throughout the state.
  • Housing Affordability Indexes (HAIs) are provided for median-income buyers and renters as well as first-time buyers and low-income renters; these indexes are published for counties and cities with populations greater than 10,000 and selected smaller cities – now available via WCRER Dashboards.
  • Income Limits for MFTE Jurisdictions provide alternative income limits for jurisdictions participating in the Multi-Family Housing Property Tax Exemption Program that have median incomes lower than the area median incomes published by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development; these alternative limits are updated annually.

These data are produced under contract with the Washington State Department of Commerce and Department of Licensing (RCW 36.70A.610 and RCW 18.85.471).
